What happens when you stop trying to control every detail and let gravity become part of the making process?
Falling Slab explores a freer, more physical and spontaneous approach to ceramics.
Together with Angelica Tulimiero, we’ll start by making our own soft moulds, using tights filled with materials such as vermiculite, sand or rice. By changing their shape and volume, we’ll create the foundations for different organic forms.
Next, we’ll prepare our clay slabs and explore ways to work with and decorate their surfaces. Then comes the unexpected part: we’ll let them fall.
Placed over the soft moulds, the slabs will be dropped onto the floor, allowing gravity, weight and impact to shape the clay naturally around them. The result is a series of soft, flowing forms that leave space for chance and surprise.
From there, we’ll take control again. We’ll look at the forms that emerge and decide where to take them next. Each piece can evolve into a functional object or a sculpture, depending on your own ideas and visual language.
A workshop to play, experiment and respond to the material, discovering a way of working with clay that feels more instinctive, spontaneous and open to the unexpected.
