How can a clay slab be transformed into a carved sculpture?
During the workshop, Jérome Meynen will share the construction method at the heart of his artistic practice.
Working exclusively with clay slabs, we’ll learn how to cut, assemble and layer them to build solid, balanced, three-dimensional forms.
We’ll explore relief, layering, openings and applied elements, discovering how ornament can move beyond surface decoration to become an integral part of the structure itself.
The focus is on learning a method that can become a starting point for developing your own visual language.
Each participant will design and build their own sculptural fragment: a personal composition where surface and volume, solid and void, come together.
Along with your finished piece, you’ll take home a construction method you can continue to experiment with, applying it to future sculptural, decorative or functional ceramic projects.
The Teacher
Jérome Meynen is based in Brussels, where he has his studio. For sixteen years, he was part of the duo Hell’O, developing a visual universe of drawing, geometric forms, imaginary characters and large-scale murals. Rooted in graffiti culture, the duo’s practice expanded across drawing, painting, installation and sculpture.
Today, Jérome brings this visual research into his solo practice and his work with ceramics. Drawing becomes volume, taking shape through hybrid forms, totems, imaginary plants and small, layered architectures.
Nature remains one of his main sources of inspiration, alongside scientific illustrations, honeycomb structures, fractal patterns and the geometric flora of Art Deco. Ceramics allows him to bring this graphic universe into the material world, exploring the relationship between drawing, structure, ornament and volume.
On March 14, 2027, Jérome will bring his approach to Studio Mud, guiding us through the process of building a sculptural form entirely from clay slabs.

Workshop Details
- When is the workshop? Sunday, March 14, 2027
- Where? At Studio Mud, Via Alloro 66, Palermo
- How long is it? 5 hours, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm
- Are materials included? Yes, we’ll provide everything you need.
- Lunch is included and offered to all participants.
- What should you bring? Comfortable clothes… and your curiosity! We’ll take care of everything else.
- Are places limited? Yes, the workshop is limited to 10 participants. It will go ahead with a minimum of 8 participants registered by February 26, 2027. Save your spot!
- How much does it cost? €120 per person. If you’re attending a Studio Mud intensive or weekly course, you’ll get 10% off one workshop of your choice (€108). Newsletter subscribers get 5% off their first workshop of choice (€114).
- What happens if the workshop is cancelled? If we don’t reach the minimum of 8 participants, or if the workshop cannot go ahead for any other reason, you can choose between a full refund or a voucher for the same amount to use towards another Studio Mud workshop.
